However, they updated it for Mountain Lion, I have to think there are still plenty of folks running the older hardware who will want this. At this time, my network is centered around a later model Airport Extreme, and as long as it's liltte light doesn't start flashing, I think I'll be OK.
The older hardware sometimes hiccups, causing the home base to worry that it's not getting a signal from one of the children in the repeater network. I'm also lucky enough to have a 2007 iMac that I can administer from in a pinch. Good thing I didn't take the plunge and update it last night as well. However, they updated it for Mountain Lion No, they did not. AP 5.6 could only be installed on Mountain Lion using third party software.which was not officially supported by Apple. What that really meant was that if you were running AP 5.6 on Mountain Lion.and you called Apple for support on an issue.you got no support.
I suggest that you hold onto the iMac to be able to administer the older AirPorts. We're at the mercy of Apple pushing an update. Please post back when you see this 'update' appear.
